Well, its ESPN Car Wash week where if you don't know all the head coaches from major conferences stop by ESPN Headquarters in Bristol, CT to be on certain shows. Monday and Tuesday were SEC days. Mark Richt of Georgia stopped by and was on "The Thundering Herd" with host Collin Cowherd on ESPN Radio. When asked by Cowherd about South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, Richt had this to say,
"I like Coach (Spurrier). I mean, the Georgia Bulldog people don't want to hear me say I like Coach Spurrier, but I like him; I enjoy him. You know, he is who he is. I have known him for years."
In the 1990s to the early 2000s, Mark Richt coached against Steve Spurrier as QBs coach and offensive coordinator at Florida State while Spurrier was head coach and QB's coach at the University of Florida. Richt went on to say,
"I'll be honest to say, I have stolen things (schemes and ideas) from him; he would probably never admit he stole anything from what we were doing at Florida State."
Spurrier was head coach at Florida in 1990-2001 where he had an 11-1 record against the Georgia Bulldogs and won 1 national championship and 6 SEC titles. He tried his luck in the NFL as head coach with the Washington Redskins from 2002-2003 but had a mediocre coaching career in the NFL to say the least.
He then decided to come back to the SEC as he was hired at South Carolina in 2005. He has built former SEC cellar-dweller South Carolina to two straight double-digit win seasons and 3 straight wins against UGA.
Spurrier was voted as the most hated coach by Bulldog fans. Mark Richt and Georgia would love to beat Spurrier and his Gamecocks for the first time in 3 long years.
